Mayor Kevin Johnson is working to put together a plan to present to the NBA to make an 11th hour bid to keep the Sacramento Kings. Fans can offer support by joining Crown Downtown, Tuesday, February 5, at Sacramento City Hall.
The meeting begins at 6pm. You are encouraged to arrive prior to the meeting at 5 pm.
Mayor Johnson has not settled upon an arena site; the railyard and the Downtown Plaza both up for consideration.
Crown Downtown’s Mike Tavares indicated a couple of main points which could be considered at the council meeting:
A majority of the council gave its initial blessing to the idea (downtown railyards) last spring, but would need to vote again on the new plan. The size and nature of the subsidy – to be funded from the city’s parking revenues – would surely raise some controversy.
The Burkle-Mastrov group will likely pitch its plan to the NBA sometime in March, leaving city officials about a month to work up a plan for Downtown Plaza. Assistant City Manager John Dangberg said the city could meet the ambitious timeline.
Here is your opportunity to show Mayor Johnson and City Council members your support in this critical time.
