With a H/T to Sactown Royalty, it appears the hibernating Geoff Petrie was awoken recently by the rumors of Rudy Gay‘s availability as the Kings GM extended a feeler to the Beale Street Bears front office. While there were no specifics mentioned in the Memphis Commercial Appeal’s piece, they did mention that the Kings talked to the Memphis Grizzlies about a potential deal involving Gay, though how far or detailed the talks went are unknown:
The Sacramento Kings are one of the teams that the Griz recently held preliminary talks with, according to a league source.
Given the Grizzlies lack of depth in the backcourt and Tyreke Evans‘ time at the University of Memphis, on the surface it appears to be somewhat fitting for both teams (though, admittingly, better for the Kings) but when you delve deeper, you wonder if any deal could actually be reached.
I examined the potential swaps a few days ago but despite Evans’ youth and potential, it’s hard to imagine Memphis investing their future in the former Rookie of the Year, given his recent injuries and upcoming salary, not to mention a game that hasn’t developed as quickly as many hoped for. Still – that all said – I’d expect the Kings and Grizzlies to continue their talks and rumors to grow as there are undoubtedly some intriguing trade possibilities between the two clubs.
