Despite Interest From Boston Celtics & Detroit Pistions, Sacramento Kings Not Trading DeMarcus Cousins

While we’ve heard the speculation about what teams were and are interested in trading for Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins, it appears that he wont be on the move – at least not until the Maloof’s have a change of heart. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, Joe and Gavin have been and still are reluctant to move the former Kentucky Wildcat, despite a willingness from GM Geoff Petrie:

{Petrie} would be willing to move Cousins, preferably in exchange for a dependable veteran of quality or two

The early word from the DeMarcus Cousins trade watch, according to the latest rumbles on the personnel grapevine, is that Kings co-owners Gavin and Joe Maloof remain reluctant in the extreme to part with their young big man…

Moving Cousins at any time, especially now, would be selling at bargain basement prices and getting fair value in the return would be nothing short of impossible, so moving Cousins is essentially a poor man’s firesale – something I can’t imagine would sit too well with the King loyalists who’ve already been run through the gamete.

That all said, DeMarcus’ new agent, Dan Fegan, has a short but rough history with Kings GM Geoff Petrie and given the already somewhat strained relationship between Cousins and the Kings, it doesn’t appear that either side will be sending out fruit baskets to the other in the near future.

Big men in their early twenty’s who can put up near 20/10 numbers on a nightly basis don’t come around very often, but some of Cousins recent’ antics have his strongest supporters cringing. Still – selling now, despite an apparent desire from Petrie, sounds off the board – that is until the Maloof’s change their mind, which as we all know, takes a snap of a finger or an irritating brother.
