While all members of the Sacramento Kings have expressed interest in getting back on the court for the upcoming season, few have been as vocal about it as the Kings’ former Rookie of the Year. Going into a semi-contract year (he’ll be restricted at season end), Evans has a lot to prove – not only to the Kings front office, but to himself, after injuries and a self-admitted out of shape situation put a damper on his past two seasons, despite the pearly stat lines.
According to his brother, Evans has been in the gym relentlessly this Summer and is determined to bring his game back to the level it was when he joined LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson as the only players to put up the elusive 20/5/5 line in their rookie campaigns.
Tyreke talked with Hoopsworld’s Yannis Koutroupis recently where Evans, who says he’s in amazing shape, is ready to show the skills he’s been working on this offseason and thinks the Kings can put together one hell of a year:
“I think we can do good things this year,” Tyreke Evans said. “We didn’t get a training camp last year, so I think this year we just have to learn to play together, once we get that part out of the way where we can play together, I think we can be a great team.”
