Mayor Kevin Johnson Continues His Push To Keep Kings In Sacramento

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson has went above and beyond in his efforts to keep the Kings in the California capital, but despite the continued back-slaps from the Maloof family, he refuses to loosen his grip.

The former NBA star turned politician was the grand marshal for Sunday’s IndyCar Series GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, however he still found time to speak on the Kings‘ most recent relocation rumors:

“We have fought very hard to keep our team in Sacramento, and we’ve been successful for the past two years,” he said. “We’re not giving up, but ultimately, it’s up to the Maloofs.”

Johnson also mentioned that he and the city council will do whatever they can to keep the team in Sacramento, with or without the Maloof family.

Despite Johnson’s hard nosed efforts, the Kings remaining in Sacramento isn’t his choice – though he can certainly make a potential move more difficult on the Maloof’s. The continued lack of commitment on the Maloof behalf wont stop the rumors anytime soon, so this will be something we’ll unfortunately have to deal with until a new arena deal is struck or the family makes a legal commitment to remain in Sacramento.

But between Mayor Johnson and the best fans in the NBA – the Maloofs have their hands full – and don’t think they don’t know it.
