Kings GM Geoff Petrie must feel comfortable with current Orlando Magic big man and Sacramento native Ryan Anderson playing small forward, because according to Steve Kyler of Hoopsworld, the Sacramento Kings are indeed planning to force the hand of the Orlando Magic as it pertains to the Cal graduate.
Kings supposedly going to test Orlando on Anderson – front loaded offer
The front loaded contract makes sense for the Kings as with a significant amount of cap room and little else to spend it on in free agency (outside of bringing back Jason Thompson and Terrence Williams), the Kings could attempt to scare the Magic away from a hefty early commitment, given the massive amount of limbo the franchise currently sits in with Dwight Howard.
A front loaded deal also makes sense for the Kings in regards to extensions to both Tyreke Evans (assuming he receives one) and DeMarcus Cousins as Anderson’s contract will be on the financial downswing while Cousins and potentially Evans’ are on the rise.
The move could also provide insurance if Jason Thompson was to receive an offer (which he appears to be waiting for) that the Kings deem too expensive for their tastes.
