Sacramento Kings Looking To Trade Draft Pick, Houston Rockets Interested

Some highly intriguing news has hit the wire tonight from ESPN’s Chad Ford.

Speculation grew this morning when news of the Kings interest in St. John’s Moe Harkless leaked and now, according to Chad Ford, the Kings and Rockets have been in trade talks for the #5 pick:

Sources say that Houston has discussed deals with several teams in the top 10 about moving up in the draft. And the Rockets might have found two willing partners.

Although sources stressed that no deal is imminent, Sacramento (No. 5) and Toronto (No. 8 ) have let Houston know that their top-10 selections are available. Sources say that the Rockets, in turn, have made both of their first-round picks available (No. 14 and No. 16), but the key to any trade going through could be point guard Kyle Lowry.

An acquisition of Kyle Lowry, who has expressed an interest to be traded after clashes with head coach Kevin McHale in addition to a middle first round pick isn’t exactly the trade Kings fans were hoping for as they had their eyes set on a Rudy Gay or Andre Iguodala, but Lowry’s no slouch and would provide a much needed defensive presence on the perimeter.

A Lowry addition would also presumably move fan favorite Isaiah Thomas into a backup role and give the backcourt rotation a bit more depth. At only 26, Lowry is still young enough to fit into the Kings core, but also brings the veteran leadership they so desperately desire.

It’s certainly not the flashy trade that capped the wishlist of many, but Lowry’s pitbull type attitude would be welcomed in Sacramento if a trade was to go down.

Update: Kyle Lowry just tweeted this:

It’s been real
