Kings' GM Geoff Petrie On Traiblazers Vacant GM Opening "I Have A Job"

Kings GM Geoff Petrie has drawn the eye of many King fans lately, handfuls wishing he’d take a permanent trip out of town along with the Maloofs – but the two time NBA General Manager of the Year award winner isn’t ready to say goodbye to Sacramento yet – or is he?

CSN Northwest’s Chris Haynes caught up with Petrie last evening as the Blazers and Kings squared off at PBP and while Petrie, who’s long been linked to Portland (for years, really) said he couldn’t talk about it – the little he did divulge was very un-Petrie like:

“I have a job here,” Petrie told CSNNW.com. “That’s something I can’t really comment on. I have a job.”

But before ending the conversation, Petrie ended with this:

“I’ve got a daughter who still lives there and I spent 25 years of my life there,” Petrie said. “Portland is a special place to me. Can’t comment on anything else.”

That’s about as straight of an answer you’ll ever get out of Petrie – and although he did throw a Petrie-isim or two in there, you have to wonder how much the lure of returning to his former stomping grounds would mean to Petrie. As he said, he still has a job in Sacramento – but with such uncertainty and only a year left on his contract, does Petrie ask for an early termination to return to the greater Northwest? Or does he stick out through the turmoil in Sacramento?
