I’ll keep this short and simple due to the server issues the network is currently going through (they should be resolved soon), but the Sacramento Kings are indeed going to be staying, the Sacramento Kings.
After countless hours upon hours of work and meetings, Sam Amick is reporting that the framework for a deal to keep the Kings in Sacramento has been agreed upon:
Kevin Johnson says “framework of an agreement going forward” to keep team in Sacramento. “I want to jump up and down.”
As we can all remember, it wasn’t that long ago that the Kings feet were outside the door – the clock was ticking on their final seconds – a full court shot the only hope that the Kings would remain in Sacramento.
But thanks to countless efforts from fans – from organizations like Think Big and Here We Stay, local businesses and Mayor Kevin Johnson, the full court shot was just swished down – complete with a jumping Donte Greene from the sideline.
While final details will emerge in due time, it’s being reported that the Maloof’s contribution will be upwards of $75 million upfront – more than the anticipated original 60+ million that was initially reported and $75 million down the road.
Keep in mind – this is only frame work, and in addition to that – there are still five votes that will need passing in the near future, but you just witnessed the greatest comeback in Sacramento Kings history – and I emphasize that final part – Sacramento.
There are too many handshakes and thank you’s to spread across the community – to fans, to local business, to media members – all of whom who’ve fought to keep their Kings in Sacramento. But for all those that did – and while it certainly doesn’t do all of your work justice – we say thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
