Some interesting news from the keyboard of Chris Haynes this morning as he reports that the Sacramento Kings will cut Francisco Garcia via the amnesty clause if Jamal Crawford does indeed pick the Sacramento Kings.

This one is odd to me, given the fact that Garcia wouldn’t be very difficult to trade – especially to a contending team. Garcia would provide solid defense, outside shooting and veteran leadership (not to mention ball handling skills) to any team he lands on, which any franchise would welcome with open arms. In addition to his on-court skills, Garcia is only under contract for this season and next as there is a team option for the 2013-2014 season, effectively making him an expiring contract next year.
For a one year rental of Crawford, it seems extremely questionable for the Kings to cut Garcia.
UPDATE: Kings beat writer Jason Jones is being told that the Kings do not plan to amnesty Garcia, which makes much more sense.
