Since the days of Christ Webber and the removal of the black uniform in 2002-03, Sacramento King fans have been clamoring for its return. And snowflakes, the time has come.
Thanks to an appearance in the annual NBA 2K12 video game, we have our first glance at the new digs, even if the blurriness makes it appear as if you’ve been on a five day bender. As you can see from the screen grab (just squint really hard), the uniform features a mostly black theme with a white and purple undertone (possible a shiny silver/grey color on the piping and numbers?), using the old mid 80’s/early 90’s script (or the same script as the hideous gold uniforms that I’m still trying to forget *keeps jamming steak knife into eyes*). It’s cut in the same style as current King uniforms so there is no actual redesign of the fit – it’s simply a new (and personally fantastic) color change. A fantastic way to swindle me out of another $80 bucks. You crafty bastards.
NBA 2K12 lists the uniform as a road alternate, though, that should be taken with a grain of salt as the uniform could simply be just a general alternate, especially given the positive reception these will most likely receive. Once the game releases on Tuesday, I’ll take higher quality pictures of the uniform so we can get a better idea of what exactly the new threads look like in detail.
The Kings will have ten uniforms featured in the game, which are:
- Current home uniform
- Current road uniform
- Current (mentioned above) alternate road uniform
- 1985-1989 powder blue away uniform
- 1994-2001 white home uniform
- 1994-2001 black away uniform
- 2003-2007 white home uniform
- 2003-2007 purple away uniform
- 2005-2006 gold away alternate uniform
- 1971-1972 white home Cincinnati Royals uniform
