Tim Leiweks, President of AEG – one of the leading sports and entertainment companies in the world has expressed interest in moving the Kings back to Kansas City but, there’s a minor problem. The Kings brass wont talk to him.
AEG owns the three and a half year old Sprint Center in Kansas City and has attempted to bring in multiple professional sport franchises, but, continues to strike out and apparently has done so in their latest effort to bring the Kings back to the Midwest.
Leiweks told ESPN recently that the Kings appear dead set on moving to Anaheim and wont even as much as entertain the thought of relocation to Missouri. Really, you can’t blame the Kings, but you’d like to assume that the Maloofs could potentially use the KC situation as leverage in the potential relocation to Orange County, if that situation wasn’t already done. Let’s not forget, despite the lack of competition from a market size aspect, the Sprint Center is only three plus years old, holds over 19,000 people, and has 72 luxury suites. The fact they’ve completely ignored Leiweks and AEG seems to only fuel the fire that the move to So Cal is just about a done deal.
