Sacramento mayor and ex-NBA player Kevin Johnson said in so many words that major collapse by Anaheim needed for Kings to come back.
KJ just added he does not think “Sacramento can influence” the Maloof’s decision and added situation is “ominous and concerning.”
“(The Maloofs are) going down a route to look at their options and we have to respect that.I don’t think at this particular moment there is a whole lot we can do…,” KJ said.
Sac mayor Kevin Johnson discussing potential Kings move: It is “more likely they’re going to be in Anaheim.”
A devastating blow for the city of Sacramento and we, as fans.
Many wonder why the Kings would be willing to relocate outside of Sacramento and move to an arena only a few years younger than Arco Power Balance Pavilion – simply revenue. Outside of a larger exposure area and more commercial rights, Sam Amick points out what might be the most telling reason:
a source close to the situation tells me the Maloofs could stand to quadruple their Sacramento/Comcast earnings on an Anaheim TV deal with Fox.
Eighteen year old arena withstanding- from a financial standpoint, it’s understandable why the Maloofs are so enamored with the Anaheim area. They’re in full on financial panic.
Enamored or not though – ripping the hearts out of millions is a cold-blooded move. I thought the Maloofs were better than that. I wouldn’t blame them in the least bit if they grabbed the moving boxes and started packing after NEXT season, but right now? After finally getting some serious movement on the arena issue? I expected better, Maloofs.
Let it be known – King fans wont let the move come easy.
