Musical Chairs: Carl Landry To Bench?

It wouldn’t be a Monday without another King player losing their starting spot, right!?

After failing to wake up for a shootaround on Saturday morning, Landry was benched in punishment for that evenings tilt with da Bulls. And according to the Bee, that move might be permanent. Or, at least until Westphal stops playing with his ouija board.

“We do know Carl can produce big-time off the bench, and I think it’s something we’ll look at real hard,” Westphal said.

It’s now been fifteen games into the season and three players from the opening night starting lineup have lost their job. And then one, Donte Greene, got his back. That of course after the fact that Greene would have been whipped for so much as looking at a basketball court for a handful of games.

I understand that Paul is doing his best to shake things up and trying to find something that works. And yes, Jason did play well against the Bulls. But, is benching Carl Landry the best way to go about that? There simply doesn’t appear to be a rhyme or reason for the random rotations and benchings. This team clearly had cohesion problems from game one and Westphal’s continued short leash and quick hook (not to mention players playing out of position) isn’t going to make that cohesion grow.

Now don’t get me wrong – I’m not calling for Westphal’s head. This team has issues. Major issues. Issues that Westphal isn’t going to fix nor is any other coach (though, I question if some would be walked over so much). But I certainly don’t see how the continued musical chairs is going to do anything but harm an already bruised squad.
