According to Tom Ziller of Sactown Royalty, Tyreke Evans has won the NBA’s Rookie Of The Year award. While the Kings nor the NBA has made an announcement, you can pretty much put it in the book and send it to the line that it’s official.
Evans, the fourth pick out of Memphis, had a historic rookie season, becoming only the fourth rookie ever to finish the season averaging 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Evans was also only one of three players this season in the NBA to average 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. The other two were Kobe Bryant and Lebron James.
Golden State rookie Stephen Curry posed the biggest obstacle in Evans’ chance for the ROY award, but anybody who watched basketball knew it was Evans’ award to lose, despite the somewhat historic rookie season Curry had himself. Of course, most media bought into the Curry hype (who played exceptional the second half of the season), almost somewhat ignoring how historic of a rookie year Evans had. But in the end, the correct decision was made and Evans will bring home the Rookie Of The Year award – as he should.
Ziller breaks down the marketing campaign of each squad – it’s a wonderful read….check it out.
