Many things had to happen last night for the Kings to move up in the projected lotto standings. The Warriors needed to beat the Blazers on the road with the minimum amount of players available. The Pistons had to win. And the Wizards had to beat an upstart Indiana Pacers team, even though they’d struggled on the road. And then it happened. In some far off galaxy, all of these items happened and by the end of the night, the Kings were in sole possession of the third slot in May’s upcoming draft lotto.
Just a few weeks ago, the Kings were looking at possibly the 8th slot in the projections, but moved all the way down to third thanks to some losses on our end and some unexpected wins by the teams mentioned above.
So, in short – what does that mean to you? Well…here are the odds of what pick we’ll be awarded come May 18th.
We are guaranteed to pick no lower than 6th, and the chances of us picking any lower than 5th almost seem impossible.
So, despite the rough season, we at least are granted some good news going into the draft. A top 5 pick in a pretty stocked draft, possible even top 3, is well worth the few silly losses at the end of the season.
In other expected news, the Kings picked up the option on Carl Landry’s contract which will pay him about 3 million dollars next season. There was a small amount of talk on the blogosphere about declining the option and signing him to a new contract, but, with the CBA and draft upcoming, I think it’s best you hold off until the end of the coming season.
