Earlier this afternoon, the Sacramento Kings announced they had picked up the third year option on Paul Westphal’s contract which runs through the 2011-2012 season. The Kings coaching situation has been just as, if not more unstable than the roster the past few years as they’ve had five head coaches since 2006 and the departure of long tenured Rick Adelman.
Westphal recently had a kicker incentive in his contract exercised as well which bumped his salary up from about 1.5 million to almost 2 million for the Kings twenty-fifth win of the year. He had another at the thirtieth win, but, the Kings will fail to meet that goal.
Westphal would have automatically been guaranteed his third season option had the Kings won a combined 6o games this season and next, but, he no longer has to worry about that.
