Tyreke Evans Wins MVP Of the Rookie Challenge

Tyreke Evans scorched the Rookie Challenge last night (26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals) and was voted MVP of the Rookie-Sophomore game. Evans, deciding to share the wealth, handed over his MVP trophy to San Antonio Spurs power forward Dejuan Blair who had just as solid of a night with 22 points and 23 rebounds – but it was clear from a non-statistical standpoint who the MVP of the game was.

Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder scored 40 for the Sophomore team in a losing effort, just two shy of his teammate Kevin Durant’s record.

A few tidbits from the game as well -

Omri Casspi had a pretty solid game and was passed up while wide open by Brandon Jennings about 5 times…but Omri had a couple monster dunks, the best of the two can be found here:

This is only the third victory for the Rookie team and the first in eight years. The Rookies out-ran the Sophomore team, small balled them if you will, as the Sophomores starting small forward would have been the tallest player on the Rookie squad.

Tyreke Evans had a wonderful circus, and-1 layup that one needs to watch:

Congrats to Reke and Omri for terrific games.

The Layup King and Air Jewdon were in full effect.
