Wow. That was just awful, yet, so typical of the Kings play this season. Play blow for blow with an elite team and then just drop off the face of the earth.
The Kings managed to only score 10 points in the 4th quarter (with about 6 of those coming in garbage time) after going into the 4th quarter with a lead on the Orlando Magic. The Kings were even up 9 at one point…only to get totally destroyed and blown out when you looked at the final score. Tyreke Evans finally met a force he couldn’t deal with – Dwight Howard. Evans has abused team after team with his unique driving ability, but Dwight Howard was having none of it – altering and blocking shots with an authority. The Kings did get Howard into a small amount of foul trouble as he had three early in the 3rd quarter but they failed to capitalize on it and Howard made them pay.
This game signaled the end of a brutal stretch for the Kings in which they played 7 of their previous 10 games against division leaders. Unfortunately, while they have some “easy” teams coming up – they’ll all be on the road as the Kings embark on a six game road trip starting Friday night in Philadelphia. On the bright side however, Kevin Martin should return assuming the practices today and tomorrow go well.
Lord knows we need him.
