Just a few days ago, it was Emeka Okafor of the Charlotte Bobcats who was on his way to Sacramento. Now today, it’s Sam Dalembert of the Philadelphia 76ers. Marc Stein of ESPN reports the Sacramento Kings are in talks with the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers about a potential three-way deal that would send Dalembert to the land of Kings. In return, Sacramento would send Kenny Thomas to Philadelphia and Andres Nocioni to the Boston Celtics. Brian Scalabrine and Tony Allen would also make the trip to the city of brotherly love while JR Giddens would come to Sacramento. If you recall, this is Boston’s second attempt to score the Argentinian forward as they made a strong push in the final hours of last years trade deadline before running out of time.
As for the financial impact for the Kings, Dalembert is signed for the rest of this year and next, making a respectable 12 million this season and 12.9 million next year.
However, in the immortal words of Public Enemy….don’t believe the hype. Marc Stein is reliable as an old shoe.
We know two things:
1) Kenny Thomas will not be a King come the NBA trade deadline…
2) Andres Nocioni most likely wont be a King either…
As far as I know, the previously cost-cutting Maloofs are willing to spend money now…not a lot, but, they will absorb salary if the situation calls for it.
From my talks with Philly and Boston insiders, I don’t expect this trade to go past the discussion stages but I wouldn’t recommend buying a Nocioni or Thomas jersey anytime soon.
A thank you card might work though. Or a pile of coal for Mr. Thomas, since it’s that time of year.
