Kings In Trade Talks For Hornets Center Emeka Okafor

Posted by: Eze

I stress these are only talks…nothing is set in stone nor is any deal imminent…but the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Hornets are in preliminary discussions about center Emeka Okafor. New Orleans would be receiving Kenny Thomas and his large 8.7 million dollar expiring contract. Other small pieces may enter the trade talks as well.

As a King fan, it’s a tough trade to process.

One, it takes away Spencer Hawes from the starting lineup…to which some would be happy with, others, not so much. In addition to that, Okafor has a lengthy and somewhat expensive contract which has about 5 years and 62 million dollars left on it. Bringing in Okafor would be a financial blow to any potential large free agent signing. But on the flip side, Sacramento really isn’t the number one free agent hot spot either…

What Okafor would bring to the Kings is toughness, an interior pressence, and a dominating rebounding force…especially paired with Jason Thompson. In addition, it would allow Thompson to play his more natural power forward position, if need be.

We’ll see how the talks progress through the day…
