In what can only be described as what the holy fuck, Kings (most likely starting) Small Forward Francisco Garcia fractured his forearm in a fluke weightlifting accident on Friday when exercise ball he was on burst. Garcia will have surgery on the arm today and is out indefinitely.
Kings GM Geoff Petrie commented on the situation late last evening:
“It’s just one of those random events that you really can’t protect yourself from,” Petrie said. “But he will get better. It’s unfortunate for him and for us in that he’s one of our most dedicated players in terms of his conditioning and following through on all his exercises and then his competitive spirit. He’s a good teammate. We’re not going to have him for a while.”
Garcia missed time last season with a fractured ring finger which he also fractured again earlier this year during an international tournament he was participating in.
The injury opens the door for Paul Westphal favorite, Desmond Mason, to start the season as the Kings starting Small Forward.
