Pistons Defeat Kings In First Summer League Game

Another loss. Something we’re getting all to used to. Thankfully these don’t matter. It was very nice to see the guys and see some basketball again though.

I was very impressed with Jon Brockman and his hustle plays. He didn’t make a lot of noise in the box score, but he was diving all over the floor for loose balls, throwing hard screens, and simply just being the bruiser that he was at Washington.

Omri Casspi and Tyreke Evans also made their King debuts, both excelling at times and also running into difficulties. Evans lived at the line, attempting 10 of the Kings 40 free throws and drove to the basket with a relentless tenacity. Casspi on the other hand didn’t have the best of games, looking over matched at times which resulted in five turnovers in his 23 minutes.

The unexpected star of the game however was invited forward Robert Battle, who abused the Pistons for 11 points and 9 rebounds in 16 minutes. Battle, 27, is a camp invite from Drexel University.

Above I’ve included highlights of the game via KingsFlix. You’ll notice there really isn’t anything on Brockman or Battle – that’s because neither player has a contract with the Kings.
