HEY! Remember When I Used To Be Good? Yea - Me Neither
First I should note this rumor (or should I say sentence) comes from the NY Post, which is reliable as an NBA groupie who says she’s on birth control (hear that Shawn Kemp?).
But since it’s a slow news day, and you need something to ruin your 4th of July, I present to you this little nugget of information from Marc Berman:
According to sources, Washington looks like the favorite for Stephon Marbury’s next gig after Boston came up with an initial offer of $1.2 million, the veteran’s minimum. Flip Saunders and Marbury are intrigued about reuniting. Sacramento also has inquired about the guard.
Now, I find a few flaws in this “Sacramento also has inquired about the guard” spiel.
As much as we need a point guard, Marbury has only played 47 games or so the past two seasons combined. And when he did play, it was far from spectacular. I might even be inclined to say Beno Udrih has played better…*gags*.
Second off, this guy just rejected a 1 year, 1.3 million dollar offer from the Boston Celtics. The Maloofs made trades this year to save around $20,000 dollars in cost cutting modes – yet – they’re willing to shell out money for Marbury?
Third – the guy is a known cancer.
And fourth – the Kings are in no place to compete this year…so spending any amount of money on a old, malcontent, pricey player seems about as logical as sticking your willy in a stone grinding machine (not that I’ve tried…okay once, but, that’s beyond the point).
It’s hard for me to think the Kings even asked to talk to Marbury’s agent – but, the Kings have shocked me more than a few times the past few years.
